Chapter 4 Analysis

Fitzgerald is trying to achieve illusion to show that Gatsby is important by listing the name of the people who went to his parties. Most of the people that went to his parties are from East Egg or West Egg. Even though many people went to his parties most of the people did not know Gatsby therefor they are using him, showing the illusion that he thinks he has lots of friends. All of these names are just characters in a play of Gatsby’s life. He doesn’t know anything about them and they don’t know anything about him, in reality Gatsby isn’t really anything it is just an illusion.
